The Journey to Find a Cloud Solution That’s Just Right for Growing Organizations
So much is happening around cloud and the digital workforce. Organizations of all sizes are creating their digital strategies, leveraging cloud, and moving forward within an ever-changing digital ecosystem. Today, organizations are working hard to leverage various types of cloud services to create powerful competitive advantages. And, they’re spending a lot of money working to figure out cloud and digital strategies. Consider this, Gartner recently stated that more than $1 trillion in IT spending will be directly or indirectly affected by the shift to cloud during the next five years. This will make cloud computing one of the most disruptive forces of IT spending since the early days of the digital age.
However, customization and infrastructure challenges can quickly bump digital strategies around workspaces off alignment.
Growing organizations today face a real-world dilemma. They want and need a cloud-based workspace solution that can be customized for their unique organizational needs. However, only the largest of the large enterprises appear to have the resources to truly implement a custom workspace solution. Sure, many cloud solutions are affordable, but IT service providers try to force “pre-packaged” solutions on their clients, which unfortunately aren’t customizable to meet specific organizational needs.
Doug Brown from DABCC radio agrees. In his latest podcast, Doug and I spent a lot of time talking about inspiring IT service providers to do more than just install technology, and instead walk into a customer environment and solve problems.
Workspace solutions that can be customized for a unique digital strategy are a good place to start.
This is key in enabling organizations to scale and compete, especially given today’s workforce that’s growing more mobile by the minute. In fact, research firm IDC, predicts the mobile worker population is expected to grow from 96.2 million in 2015 to 105.4 million by 2020. The firm also projects this population will represent nearly three quarters (72.3%) of the total U.S. workforce.
The Need for Customizable Cloud-Based Solutions (that aren’t a challenge!)
What’s needed is a simplified, secure, custom cloud workspace that enables organizations to realize access to uniquely designed infrastructures whether it’s on-premises with Cisco and Pure Flash Stack; or in public cloud environments built with Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services; or even private clouds through CenturyLink. This need only grows in importance as virtualization becomes more critical for expanding workforces in multiple locations. And, it’s important to remember that these solutions go way beyond virtual apps and desktops. A powerful, customizable, cloud-based solution must be able to support mobility, IoT, databases, ERP systems, cloud workloads, mobile digital workforces, SaaS options, and so much more.
Ultimately, this solution combines the most critical elements of business and IT to deliver an architecture that is cost-effective; scalable for a growing, global, mobile workforce; and is budget-friendly as a subscription model. As Doug Brown from DABCC radio and I explored on his recent podcast, IT service providers are only focused on building custom workspace solutions for the largest of the large enterprises. This dilemma directly impacts mid-market organizations, and enterprises on the smaller scale.
And even though many of these organizations have growing IT departments, taking this build-out internally may not be the answer. These teams will still need to learn how to manage their infrastructure in the cloud; how to connect to the data center; keeping it secure; etc. With all these concerns, internal integration won’t make life any easier.
